The Voorburgse Rugby Club currently focuses entirely on youth aged 4 to 17 years. We follow the age groups set by Rugby Netherlands, which are organized in 2-year increments. Rugby is an active sport for boys and girls, and they play in mixed teams.

For the 2024 – 2025 season, the age divisions for the teams are as follows:

  • Born in or after 2019: Guppen (U6)
  • Born in 2017 – 2018: Turven (U8)
  • Born in 2015 – 2016: Benjamins (U10)
  • Born in 2013 – 2014: Mini’s (U12)
  • Born in 2011 – 2012: Cubs (U14)
  • Born in 2009 – 2010: Junioren (U16)
  • Born in 2007 – 2008: Colts (U18)

Matches

For the youngest children, play and enjoyment are essential, so they do not participate in matches yet. The rules are explained playfully. In rugby, children can expend their energy by running and roughhousing.

Starting from the Turven level, informal matches are played with other clubs, gradually introducing the real rugby game. Safety is always a priority! The focus is on enjoying the sport rather than competing in a league.

Older youth from the Cubs level and up participate in competitive matches. Training becomes more geared toward these matches, and the intensity sometimes increases. As players get older, more rugby rules from adult rugby are applied.
